Fire & Emergency Services

The Monroe Fire Protection District is pleased to announce the opening of a new fire station located at 478 E Chambers Pike in Washington Township. This station represents a major investment in public safety for Washington Township residents and northern Monroe County. The addition of the station will significantly enhance fire protection, rescue services, and emergency medical services in the area.

Previously, emergency responses to this part of the county originated from the station on N Old State Road 37, resulting in longer response times. The new facility will provide more efficient service, especially in rural areas where timely emergency response is critical.

Staffed 24/7/365 by two firefighters, Station 26 will house the following apparatus:
• Rescue Engine: Responds to fires, fire alarms, and motor vehicle accidents.
• Brush/Medical Squad: Specially equipped for wildland fires and EMS emergencies.
• Water Tender: Provides essential water supply for firefighting operations in areas without hydrants.

A majority of incidents occurring in Washington Township are emergency medical services related, making two firefighter/EMTs a much-needed addition in the chain of survival. For other incidents, firefighters and apparatus from MFD’s seven existing stations and mutual aid partners will respond. MFD’s minimum response for a structure fire is sixteen firefighters and four firetrucks. This expansion ensures faster emergency response, improved fire suppression, and EMS capabilities. By utilizing closest unit dispatching, the station will serve as a key resource in protecting lives and property across the northern part of the county.

“This new station will allow us to provide faster and more effective emergency services to Washington Township and surrounding areas,” said Jeffrey Combs, Assistant Chief of the Monroe Fire Protection District. “With shorter response times and increased resources, we can better protect lives and property while strengthening our ability to serve the residents of Monroe County.”

Several terms of the Washington Township Boards, the Monroe Fire Protection District Board of Trustees, and local officials have worked to make this project a reality.
